Heidelberg Catechism – Sunday 8

LORD’S DAY 8

24. How are these articles divided?

Into three parts: the first is of God the Father and our creation; the second, of God the Son and our redemption; the third, of God the Holy Spirit and our sanctification.11 Peter 1:2; 1 John 5:7

25. Since there is but one Divine Being, why do you speak of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Because God has so revealed Himself2Deuteronomy 6:4 in His Word,3Isaiah 61:1; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; 1 John 5:7; 2 Corinthians 13:14 that these three distinct persons are the one, true, eternal God.
